DOCUMENTATION_CHOICE OF NARRATIVES

The above video is the recording of one of the guest critique movement and choice while walking through my UDK simulator. The path that he chose determines his mood and feelings.

Caprricio + Manifesto

Since in the prehistoric age until today, we, as human beings, are capable of telling and passing on stories, myths and legends to younger generations. The narratives (meaning) of these stories are up to the choice of the teller, what one chooses to tell or omit. Through these different narratives, the stories are embed within the listener’s memory until when the narrative is broken.
The question is “what can break a narrative sequence” and what breaking it do to a narrative?
The exploration of the experience of narrative through choice and the experience of the alteration or the dismissals of known narratives is done through the use of colour, material, sound, objects and dimensions. The expectation of all these elements to correlate and in sequence with each other is now challenged and instead, be replaced with the extraction and the dismissal of narratives elements.
How the expectation of a narrative leads to emotional satisfaction and how some of the elements of these narratives are omitted are being explored.  For example, how one could know a story so well but they still enjoy reading it over and over again because it gives the satisfaction but once the story doesn’t continue like it usually is, the whole experience of the reader changes.
The variety of choice or paths which that can be taken in any sequence will determine each element of a narrative and how that specific path leads to a different narrative than the other paths. The building up of a narrative through each path can be determines by the choice of oneself.
The expectation of a narrative and their emotional senses such as the contradiction between a dark pathway and a bustling city will be combined together to form one of the many narratives, creating a different spatial configuration.
The exploration of this topic questions the impact of a series of different narratives have on space and people, and the dependant of a narratives through choice. Moreover, questions the impact of a broken narrative sequence have on spatial qualities.

Presentation method diagram

My presentation will start of with me, describing my Thesis statement  and  my brief  description of the Simulator.
After the simulator finishes, I will describe my simulator diagrams and what the outcome should be.

I will then lead on talking about how I came up with this simulator by firstly, talking about my Cappricio, which is "the times" by William Hogarth and that I am interested in the illustration techniques the artist use. This will lead on to my experiential research on the journey to the centre of the earth novel, movie and theme park. The focus of my research is on the theme park and how does that relate to my simulator.
I want my simulator to be at the beginning because then the user would not feel restricted and bound to my description and the outcome I want to achieve with this simulator.

Experimentation Examples #1

Above are examples of my experimentation with narrative based space creating which I made through Imovie stop motion and also Bongo animation in Rhino.  I try to create different spaces with the alteration of time, dimensions, colour, sound effects, music, speech, objects (obstacles) and distance. These primary elements will help create a distinct narrative.

MANIFESTO OF NARRATIVE BASED SIMULATOR

The experiential simulator will convey the experience of dissatisfaction through expectation. The dissatisfaction of the audience is caused by the alteration or the dismissals of known narratives that are disturbing. The expectation of a narrative to be in the correct and conventional sequence will be challenged as audience will feel overwhelmed, confused and dissatisfied with the outcome.
The investigation of how expectation of a narrative leads to emotional satisfaction and how this investigation could be challenged. For example, how one could know a story so well but they still enjoy reading it over and over again because it gives the satisfaction but once the story doesn’t continue like it usually is, the whole experience of the reader changes.
This experiential simulator contains the jumbling up of sequenced events such as a well known narrative or a typical sequenced daily routine.  The audience reads the sequenced narrative first then transition into the jumbled up, non sequential narrative.
The experience the audience would have is firstly, the expectation of a normal narrative. Secondly, the audience will gradually notice the odd changes in the narrative until the whole meaning of the narrative changes and completely contradicts itself. The audience then feels overwhelmed and uncomfortable leading to the last experience which is dissatisfaction as the narrative is disturbing or not what is expected.
